A Program for Teens and Young Adults
to Prepare for Independence

  • Skills for real life – Independence in personal skills, banking, shopping, cooking, handling an emergency, internet safety
  • Transition planning – Promotion of movement to post-secondary education or employment, semi-independent/independent living
  • Employment preparation – Strengthening overall communication skills, developing a resume, preparing for job interviews, dressing for success
  • Positive problem solving – Learning to assess a problem, consider the options, explore consequences, follow through with an action plan, evaluate the solution
  • Social thinking skills – Learning about how your thoughts during an interaction affect your behavior, which affects other’s reactions, which in turn affects your self-esteem
