Caring Kids
Social skills instruction is an important aspect of any preschool curriculum. Research has proven that children who enter school with poor or limited social skills limit their success in the classroom both socially and academically. Tristan’s Quest believes that providing enriched social skills training for children during their pre-school years gives them a jump start on a successful transition to elementary school and beyond!
To that end, Tristan’s Quest is starting a Caring Kids support group for 4-year-old children. They learn about caring and sharing with friends through children’s literature and hands-on activities like puppet dramas and crafts.

Teaching and introducing skills with a story book can increase their literacy, listening, vocabulary, and comprehension. The stories also portray relevant examples of how to use these skills, and what to do when faced with a certain situation. Because stories are fun and pleasurable, children may not see “story time” as a typical lesson, but as a leisure activity.
Puppets work so well because they are multi-sensory, providing visual, auditory, tactile, and kinesthetic stimulation; and children respond to them easily. Puppets are inherently interesting, often humorous, and they are first-rate storytellers. They bring focus and interest to the subject matter and teach children without the children recognizing that they are being taught. Puppets take the focus off the child and create a unique communication and learning opportunity.
